Luxury Interior Designers in Bengaluru
Temple Town is an architecture and interior design studio that has been creating homes since 1999. Our studio and workshop are in Thrissur, Kerala; our clients are across India, and Bengaluru is home to some of our most significant work.
We design the house, and we make the furniture that goes in it. Every bed, table, chair and cabinet is handcrafted from solid Indian teak in our own workshop, so the interior and the furniture are conceived as one piece of work rather than assembled from catalogues.
Our homes in Bengaluru
Coromandel Court — a 12,000 sq ft residence for a couple at the very top of global business and their two young children. They wanted a home that was slow, rooted and unmistakably South Indian, while working for a family that moves at speed. It has a sunken living room under 20-foot ceilings, a pooja room drawn from temple architecture, and a principal suite with a Raja Ravi Varma painting set into the wardrobe. It was completed in nine months, and it is the house in which our design language, Heirloom Modernism, was first named.
A home for three generations — a 2,000 sq ft home for a young family who moved to Bengaluru from Kerala and Mangalore, bringing their inherited Kerala heirlooms with them. We gave every heirloom a place beside new pieces made for it in our workshop, with an old Kerala door as the entrance, Athangudi-tiled balcony bar, and a room for the grandmother designed around memories of Kochi.
Heirloom Modernism: East and West at the same standard
Our work follows a single idea, which we call Heirloom Modernism: Indian craftsmanship held to the standard of the world's finest furniture, combining the best of Eastern and Western design traditions, and made to be inherited rather than replaced.
In practice that means an Indian vocabulary — teak, cane, brass, antique Kerala doors and pillars, classical Indian art — composed with the proportion, comfort and restraint of European design. A gate-legged teak dining table beside chairs upholstered in Indian textiles. A four poster in a contemporary bedroom. Neither tradition is decoration on the other.
Why clients in Bengaluru work with a Kerala studio
The furniture is ours. Most studios specify furniture from other makers. We make ours, to order, which means sizes, finishes and details are designed for your rooms rather than chosen from what is available.
One commission, not three. Design, furniture and furnishing come from the same team, so nothing is lost between an architect's drawings and a supplier's catalogue.
Heritage handled properly. Many of our clients have family pieces, antique doors or collections to bring into a new home. Restoring and placing them well is a large part of what we do.
Furniture for Bengaluru homes
Our teak four poster beds, cane and rattan beds, seating and tables and storage are made to order in Thrissur and delivered to Bengaluru. You can also commission pieces independently of a full interior.
