Teak Four Poster Canopy Bed
Description
A full canopy, and a caned headboard
The Signature is a true canopy bed: all four posts joined overhead by a teak frame that draws a clean rectangle above the bed. It encloses without darkening — the canopy is left open, so the room reads through it. Dress it with muslin, or leave the frame bare and let the joinery do the work.
Twisted and fluted posts. Each post carries two carved registers — a deep barley-twist spiralling up from the turned foot, giving way to a fluted column above the mattress line, closed with a turned finial. The twist is cut by hand along the length of the post, one of the slowest operations in the workshop and the reason the piece reads as carved rather than machined.
A hand-caned headboard. The headboard is a panel of hand-woven rattan cane set into a teak frame with scrolled shoulders, in the Anglo-Indian Regency manner. Cane is used here for the reason it has always been used in this climate: it breathes, it is light against the weight of the teak, and it ages into a deeper honey rather than wearing out.
Honey-toned Indian teak. Kiln-dried, responsibly sourced solid teak, finished warm and light so the grain and the carved detail stay legible. A solid teak footboard panel closes the frame.
